Featuring Everette Harp, Michael Paulo, Lin Rountree, Ray Fuller, Tony Moore, Tom Zink and the Berks Horns
DOORS OPEN AT 10:30 A.M. / BRUNCH AT 11:00 A.M. / CONCERT BEGINS AT 12:00 P.M.
For this Sunday Jazz Brunch, hosted by Michael Tozzi, favorite Berks Jazz Fest artists will be joined by Berks County’s own “horns for hire,” The Berks Horns.
Michael Tozzi, who first visited Berks Jazz Fest in 1995 and helped put it on the map as a WJJZ Smooth Jazz radio personality, also operates ijazzglobal.com. He recently launched the “First Sunday Emerging Artist Series” at SOUTH Jazz Kitchen in Philadelphia.
Jazz bassist Brian Bromberg grew up in a musical family in Tucson, Arizona. He started out as a drummer, beginning his professional career at age 13. After trying the cello in his school orchestra, he switched to the upright bass and was hooked for life.
Brian took music classes while still in high school at the University of Arizona, and played in the orchestra, lab band and jazz combos. After testing out of high school, he devoted all his time to music, playing “every type of gig imaginable.”
He was discovered by Bill Evans’ bassist, Marc Johnson, who connected him with the legendary saxophonist Stan Getz, and Bromberg spent nearly a year touring internationally with Getz’s quintet at age 19.
Since then he has toured, performed and recorded with too many legends to name. His debut album as a soloist was “A New Day” (1986). He has released more than 25 albums, most recently “A Little Driving Music” (2021) and “The Magic of Moonlight.”
Also featured in his Berks Jazz Fest concert will be Grammy-nominated saxophonist Everette Harp, along with influential contemporary jazz saxophonist Michael Paulo; soul/urban trumpeter, producer and composer Lin Rountree; guitarist/musical director Ray Fuller; multi-genre drummer and bandleader Tony Moore; Grammy-nominated pianist/arranger/producer Tom Zink; and The Berks Horns.
Since 2002, The Berks Horns — saxophonist Mike Anderson, trombonist Bill Miller and trumpeter Rob Diener — have been performing as a “pickup” horn section for various artists at the Boscov’s Berks Jazz Fest, beginning with Gregg Karukas. All of them are professional musicians who play in regional bands.
