LVGR Band Factory Showcase 2023!

Band Factory is a program of Lehigh Valley Girls Rock (LVGR), a nonprofit dedicated to empowering cisgender girls and women + trans and nonbinary folks through music and art.

Band Factory also doubles as fundraiser for LVGR’s Get LOUD Camp! Think of it like a 5k but for music and with built in mentorship! This year we have created TEN new bands who have written up to 12 minutes of new music while competing to win prizes over nine weeks of competition! The Band Factory Showcase is the culminating celebration of their efforts where they get to perform and the place we’ll announce the grand prize winners. The bands that raise the most money and secure the most donors per person overall will win studio recording time for one of their songs!

Why are we raising money?

This year LVGR celebrated its tenth annual youth program, Get LOUD Camp! We are so proud to have made this milestone. Like many nonprofits, LVGR struggled through the height of the pandemic. Reaching this milestone is all the sweeter because of it, but it also means we have some rebuilding to do. We like to call this rebuilding a rebirth because we have lots of new energy and new ideas! But we need funding to get there!

Band Factory is primarily a fundraiser for Get LOUD Camp, a program that runs for one week each year and is open to cisgender girls + trans and nonbinary youth ages 10-17. They come to camp, form a band, learn to play an instrument, write an original song together, and play a show! All in five days while also attending workshops on self care, social justice, and community building. We do all of this in a positive, nurturing environment where we teach kids that their greatest power is in being themselves.

Get LOUD Camp takes a lot of resources – camp and venue space, staff costs and volunteer stipends, supplies, instruments, and the list goes on. We hope to raise $10,000 with this year’s Band Factory, which will help fund a large portion of camp costs so that other resources can support our programming outside of camp.

Here are some other things we have in our pipeline!

– expand youth leadership opportunities
– bring back Let’s Rock Camp (the adult version of Get LOUD Camp).
– continue Get LOUD Fest (a concert celebrating gender inclusivity in music).
– continue youth band mentorship beyond camp through things like after school programs
– host meet ups and workshops throughout the year to bring folks together and cultivate a sense of community
– expand our community partnerships

And one day we’d love to grow to . . .

– hold two sessions of Get LOUD Camp (one for kids, one for teens)
– secure a location to call our own where we’ll be able to do so much more
