This spring we are kicking off a brand new year-long Series FASHION IN FILM. Throughout the year we will delve into cinemaโ€™s greatest style hits and explore how clothing and fashion can be woven together to propel a filmโ€™s story. Not only will we highlight the work of iconic designers like Edith Head and Coco Chanel, but we will also exhibit films where the costumes are given a starring role. In April we will showcase the Hitchcock/ Edith Head Designed classic REAR WINDOW.๐—š๐—ฒ๐˜ ๐—ง๐—ถ๐—ฐ๐—ธ๐—ฒ๐˜๐˜€ at countytheater.org/fashion
๐—”๐—ฏ๐—ผ๐˜‚๐˜ ๐˜๐—ต๐—ฒ ๐—บ๐—ผ๐˜ƒ๐—ถ๐—ฒ: This supremely stylish Hitchcock thriller is about a photographer, played by Jimmy Stewart, who is confined to his apartment with a broken leg. He proceeds to spy on his neighbors and soon suspects that heโ€™s uncovered a murder. The script is superb and a young Grace Kelly is impossibly glorious is this landmark thriller from the master of suspense.
๐—”๐—ฏ๐—ผ๐˜‚๐˜ ๐˜๐—ต๐—ฒ ๐—™๐—ฎ๐˜€๐—ต๐—ถ๐—ผ๐—ป: With costumes designed by the legendary Edith Head, Grace Kelly (a real-life princess) sports one gorgeous summer ensemble after another. Hitchcock asked Head to dress Kelly as if she was โ€œslightly untouchable.โ€ Kelly sports instantly iconic looks such as an elegant monochromatic dress with a full white โ€˜circleโ€™ skirt and off the shoulder top, followed by a green pistachio colored suit on top of a beautiful white halter top and white pillbox hat (which was a trendy style in the โ€˜50s). Every piece of clothing that Kelly wears in the film perfectly encapsulates the high society fashion of the 1950s.
