This spring we are kicking off a brand new year-long Series FASHION IN FILM. Throughout the year we will delve into cinemaโs greatest style hits and explore how clothing and fashion can be woven together to propel a filmโs story. Not only will we highlight the work of iconic designers like Edith Head and Coco Chanel, but we will also exhibit films where the costumes are given a starring role. In April we will showcase the Hitchcock/ Edith Head Designed classic REAR WINDOW.๐๐ฒ๐ ๐ง๐ถ๐ฐ๐ธ๐ฒ๐๐ at countytheater.org/fashion
๐๐ฏ๐ผ๐๐ ๐๐ต๐ฒ ๐บ๐ผ๐๐ถ๐ฒ: This supremely stylish Hitchcock thriller is about a photographer, played by Jimmy Stewart, who is confined to his apartment with a broken leg. He proceeds to spy on his neighbors and soon suspects that heโs uncovered a murder. The script is superb and a young Grace Kelly is impossibly glorious is this landmark thriller from the master of suspense.
๐๐ฏ๐ผ๐๐ ๐๐ต๐ฒ ๐๐ฎ๐๐ต๐ถ๐ผ๐ป: With costumes designed by the legendary Edith Head, Grace Kelly (a real-life princess) sports one gorgeous summer ensemble after another. Hitchcock asked Head to dress Kelly as if she was โslightly untouchable.โ Kelly sports instantly iconic looks such as an elegant monochromatic dress with a full white โcircleโ skirt and off the shoulder top, followed by a green pistachio colored suit on top of a beautiful white halter top and white pillbox hat (which was a trendy style in the โ50s). Every piece of clothing that Kelly wears in the film perfectly encapsulates the high society fashion of the 1950s.
๐๐ผ๐๐๐๐บ๐ฒ ๐๐ฒ๐๐ถ๐ด๐ป๐ฒ๐ฟ: Edith Head
๐๐ฏ๐ผ๐๐ ๐๐ต๐ฒ ๐ฆ๐ฒ๐ฟ๐ถ๐ฒ๐ From Marilyn’s iconic white halter dress to Brando’s leather jacket, it’s no secret that some costumes make a lasting impression both in a viewerโs mind and in their closet. Throughout the year we will delve into cinemaโs greatest style hits and explore how clothing and fashion can be woven together to propel a filmโs story.
