THANKS.  \nOrig post from last week follows …  \n************* \nOur next show is going to be a selection of post-punk and New Wave. There are a thousand reasons why\, but I’ll just cite a few:  \n– Gen X is still an underserved demographic. I want to do a show that people my age don’t only want to attend\, but also can’t imagine themselves missing.  \n– These genres are underappreciated. Of course people know what post-punk and New Wave were\, and they know a lot of the songs. But the music is still under-discussed and misunderstood. There was a silly side to the 80s\, an over-the-top side\, and the most of the paeans and tributes out there put a bit too much of that in for my taste. Some real art is missed or obscured in the process. \n– The music has many moods. I put a photo of Joy Division below — that’s one of the moods. But the show won’t just be gothic and dark. We are also going to bring in the depth\, elation\, wonder\, novelty\, and more that courses through this music.  \n– Post-punk and New Wave were about reinvention. Today too often it seems like the future has been stolen and all we can do is look backwards. Why this show then? Because if we are compelled to look backwards\, maybe the thing to do is look backwards at people who were looking forward. Perhaps with this paradoxical approach we can learn something and start breaking free.  \nDate? Likely May. Location? Black Squirrel Club in Philadelphia. More posted here ASAP. Watch this space.
