Samhain: A Ritual of Remembrance, Release & Renewal

Samhain pronounced (Sa-win) is an Celtic word meaning Summer’s End. Samhain falls midway between the autumn equinox and the winter solstice. It is a time to honor the turning of the seasons, remember those who have passed, and reflect on the cycle of endings and beginnings.

Daylight Saving Time ends early morning of November 1st, giving us an early sunset and a natural transition into darkness as our ritual begins. We’ll gather around the fire as the light fades, creating space to pause, remember those we have lost, release what no longer serves us, and look forward.

Remembering Those We’ve Lost:

At FBR, our ritual includes both humans and animals. The animals who have shared our lives leave an unmistakable imprint on us, and their lives deserve to be remembered and honored.

We’ll begin by reflecting on those—human and animal—whose lives have touched us.

Releasing What No Longer Serves Us:

Samhain is also a time of transition and reflection.

As the natural world releases what it no longer needs, we’ll take a moment to consider what we are ready to release. As we watch the flames consume what we have written, we’ll acknowledge that even difficult experiences can leave us with wisdom, growth, and lessons to carry forward.

Looking Forward:

After releasing what no longer serves us, we’ll turn our attention toward what we want to nurture.

Dress warmly and comfortably for an evening outdoors.

If you’d like, bring small items that remind you of loved ones you have lost.
