My friend and I thoroughly enjoyed our experience with Eric and Historic Bethlehem River Tours. Seeing the steel stacks up close for the first time from the water was pretty awesome. Eric is very knowledgeable about the history of the area, Bethlehem Steel, and the Lehigh River as it helped in the industrial revolution. The scenery was lovely. There was quite a nice section of river where you wouldn’t know you were in the middle of a major metro area if you didn’t already know. I especially enjoyed admiring the variety of birds along the way. The heron population is clearly doing well and the cormorant are neat to see. This is a trip that is very accessible for first time and newer kayaking, but is still very enjoyable if you have kayaking experience and want to see a new area. The bike ride back was just the right length, long enough to enjoy, short enough to leave plenty of time in the rest of your day. The gear provided is well maintained and good quality. Highly recommend!
We had an amazing time on the tour! Our guide Eric was great. Excellent mix of scenic kayaking with some really interesting history about the Steel Stacks and Bethlehem in general. My wife tipped over at one point, but there was no panic, and Eric had us back up and going again in no time. Nice easy 5 mile bike ride back to finish the trip. Highly recommended!
Eric helped us navigate a changing reservation because of weather and water conditions and was incredibly gracious in upgrading us to accommodate. The tour was educational and fun. Eric is a genuine tour guide who clearly cares about the work he’s doing. The kayaking was a great time as was the biking on the D&L trail. The gear was in great condition and modern. We felt safe and had a wonderful time exploring a side of Bethlehem that was new to us. I would recommend this experience to my family and friends for an active opportunity to see the more natural side of the beautiful historic town.
Awesome time with my husband and boys 11,14. It was peaceful and got pretty good workout from constant paddling, beautiful nature to observe, turtles, birds, neat history about Bethlehem steel factory and history of Moravian education that was brought to USA from people -directly of my homeland region Moravia – Czech Republic. Bike ride back is a great addition to add to the variety to the day, definitely a well spent day outdoors, yet not exhausting. Thank you so much! Happy to recommend around.
Worthwhile activity to experience in Bethlehem. Tour guide Eric made it an enjoyable afternoon on the river. He kept in good communication on trip time changes due to weather. Once we were set, he had all the kayaks ready to go. He provided a nice commentary on the steel plants across the river and helped us navigate the current in the faster moving sections. It was a relaxing 5 miles downstream. Back on land, the bike trek back went well. The guide kept a good pace, though if you wanted to stop at the interpretive signs at the grist mill or other scenic view points, you certainly could. Lots of wildlife to see and hear. Given the opportunity I would definitely do the tour again with this outfit.
